Donor Stories-Lipfert

The Value of the Gift Annuity

Fred Lipfert knows a good deal when he sees one. This is how he describes his charitable gift annuity with the Northwell Health Foundation. His wife Charlotte has charitable gift annuities with organizations that are meaningful to her.

Fred and Charlotte Lipfert are Ohio natives who have made Northport their home since 1964. Together 55 years, the Lipferts have two sons and four grandchildren. Fred earned his BS and MS from the University of Cincinnati and his Ph.D. from the Union Institute. He began his career in aerospace engineering working with jet engines for GE in Cincinnati. After a year in Brussels at a NATO graduate school, he relocated to Long Island where he worked for an aerospace science lab, then at LILCO where he served as manager of air quality, and later as a member of the scientific staff at Brookhaven National Lab. He now consults on environmental air quality issues.

Fred funded a charitable gift annuity with Northwell Health for the eventual benefit of Huntington Hospital. He made this gift, not only for the financial benefits (a good return and a charitable income tax deduction), but also because "Charlotte and I have been patients at Huntington Hospital more than once, and we are pleased that this gift will help support continued quality emergency services for the community."

The Lipferts have visited 65 countries; this year they plan to visit archeological sites in Greece and Peru. They spend time each winter in Rincon, Puerto Rico. In his spare time, Fred enjoys sailing his Ensign sailboat in Huntington Bay.
