While we could not hold our usual luncheon due to continuing pandemic restrictions, a few members joined us for two small group lunches at Limani. We expressed our thanks for their gifts—past, present, and future. Conversations focused on vaccinations, the hot real estate market, the need for estate planning during this time, and hopes and plans for future travel.

Payson Wharton Legacy Society Wellness Kit

While we had to cancel our annual luncheon due to the pandemic, we wanted to share our wishes for good health. We sent all legacy society members across Northwell a “wellness kit” composed of items that could assist in staying healthy (face masks, wipes, a first aid kit, and a pen). Accompanying the kit was a note from Brian Lally, senior vice president and chief development officer, thanking everyone for their support and recognizing our health care heroes who have cared for so many during the pandemic and beyond.

Celebrating Our Legacy Society Members

Members and friends of the Payson Wharton Legacy Society gathered at Hendrick’s Tavern on a lovely summer day and enjoyed a delicious meal together. Dr. Jose Prince, MD, FACS, FAAP, shared an update about the future of pediatric surgery. Our eleventh annual luncheon enabled us to celebrate our legacy society members for their gifts and to encourage others to become members and support the future of Northwell Health.

Thanking Our Legacy Society Members

Payson Wharton Legacy Society members gathered over the summer and enjoyed a delicious meal before listening to Robert Grabher discuss “The Future of Cardiovascular Medicine at Northwell Health.” He not only regaled attendees with some of the most recent advances in care, including heart transplants, but he also shared the many ways in which Northwell plans to advance the cardiac care we offer across the organization. This very special tenth annual luncheon continued a decade-long tradition of gratitude from Northwell to thank donors who have made a variety of gifts, including through their wills and trusts, charitable gift annuities, and combinations of gifts that provide funds now and at a later time. We hope you will join us as we embark on the next decade of these very special events!

Payson Wharton Legacy Society members gathered over the summer and enjoyed a delicious meal before listening to Dr. Lisa Langer discuss “What Is Mindfulness?” She explained how just a few minutes of daily meditation has been proven to lead to many positive developments both mentally and physically. We had the opportunity to practice for several minutes.

Our ninth annual luncheon continued a fun and informative Northwell tradition of gratitude. We welcome the opportunity to thank our generous donors who have each found a way to show their appreciation for superior health care. These kind friends have made a variety of gifts, including through their wills and trusts, charitable gift annuities, and combinations of gifts that have an impact now and later.

We hope you will join us next year for our tenth annual celebration.

Payson Wharton Legacy Society members gathered for the eighth annual luncheon—this year at Hendrick’s Tavern in Roslyn.

After enjoying a delicious meal, members and their guests listened to Dr. Renee Pekmezaris discuss the many ways that new technology is impacting the way that health care is being delivered, especially in the home.

Dr. Pekmezaris’s presentation was just another example of how Northwell Health has become a leader and innovator in health and medicine while highlighting our focus on wellness and health.

The luncheon continues to be a fun and informative way for the Foundation to thank our generous donors who have each found a way to show their gratitude for superior health care. Our donors’ gifts will be making a real difference in the future of health care.

At their seventh annual luncheon, members of North Shore-LIJ’s Payson Wharton Legacy Society and their guests listened to Louis Potters, MD, who discussed what principles guide the North Shore-LIJ Health System in providing cutting-edge, personalized and compassionate care. North Shore-LIJ’s comprehensive network of services enables the treatment of the entire patient in ways that few other health providers can provide.

The luncheon continues to be a fun and informative way that North Shore-LIJ thanks our generous donors who have each found a way to show their gratitude for receiving superior health care. Our donors have made gifts in their wills and trusts, charitable gift annuities and combinations of gifts that provide funds both now and at a later time. Their gifts will benefit nearly every hospital and several programs throughout the health system.

Payson Wharton Legacy Society: Lunch with a Side of Robots

For the sixth year in a row, Payson Wharton Legacy Society members and friends gathered for an annual luncheon. After enjoying a delicious lunch, members and their guests listened to Dr. Bruce Volpe discuss his cutting edge use of robotics to aid in recovery from brain trauma, such as from a stroke, as well as physical injuries suffered by veterans and children.

Following a question and answer session, one lucky attendee at each table took home a lovely floral arrangement. The luncheon continues to be a fun and informative gathering. It is just one way the Foundation thanks our generous donors who have included the health system in their estate plans.

Fifth Annual Legacy Society Luncheon

An attorney, a Nielsen Rating expert, and a teacher all walk into the Carltun on a warm summer afternoon. It sounds like the start of a joke, doesn’t it? Actually they gathered at the fifth annual legacy society luncheon honoring members of the Payson Wharton Legacy Society. After mingling and enjoying a nutritious (but tasty!) lunch, members and their guests turned their attention to Judith Sabzevari, MS RD CDN CDE, registered dietician and certified diabetes educator, who explained how to “Make Your Plate Great.”

Following a question-and-answer session, the traditional centerpiece drawing was held, and six lucky attendees each took home a lovely floral arrangement. The luncheon continues to attract more attendees each year and is just one way we thank our generous donors who have included the health system in their estate plans or as a beneficiary of a gift.

Fourth Annual Legacy Society Luncheon

On a beautiful summer day, members of the Payson Wharton Legacy Society mingled at the Carltun for our fourth annual legacy society luncheon. Following a healthy lunch, members and guests listened raptly to Dr. Gisele Wolf-Klein, who provided an update about Alzheimer’s disease. She shared tips for what we can do to try to stave off the illness, what current sufferers can do to cope with the illness, and what is being done to try to find a cure for this devastating disease.

Following what has become a tradition, one lucky person at each table took home a lovely floral centerpiece. This luncheon is just one way the Foundation expresses thanks to our generous donors.

Third Annual Legacy Society Luncheon at the Carltun

The sun shone warmly on members of the Payson Wharton Legacy Society as they enjoyed a glass of wine on the patio of the Carltun at Eisenhower Park for the third annual legacy society luncheon. Afterwards guests enjoyed a scrumptious lunch and listened to Dr. Dan Grande describe his research involving recent advances in orthopedic surgery. Members left with good memories and a specially designed “Thanks” booklet, and one lucky person at each table took home a lovely centerpiece! This luncheon is just one way the Foundation staff continues to express thanks to our planned gift donors.

Payson Wharton Legacy Society—Annual Luncheon

The sunshine warmed members of the Payson Wharton Legacy Society and invited guests as they enjoyed a glass of wine and hors d’oeuvres on the porch of the Manhasset Bay Yacht Club. Everyone sat down to a healthy lunch and learned about cholesterol management from Dr. Bart Steinberg, director of the Coronary Care Unit at Long Island Jewish Medical Center. Members walked away with materials about heart health and a baked treat, as well as new Legacy Society brochures. This annual event is just one way the Foundation staff expresses our thanks to planned gift donors.

Payson Wharton Legacy Society Event

The record rainfall on June 18 didn’t keep members of the Payson Wharton Legacy Society from enjoying a lovely afternoon at Planting Fields Arboretum. Over rainy-day delectables, including chicken noodle soup and cookies, members had the opportunity to get to know each other a little better, followed by a practical (and pain-preventing!) presentation on improving balance and preventing falls from Dale Chaikin, BSN, RN, and Gayle Kolidas, LCSW, who represented North Shore-LIJ’s Office of Community Health and Public Policy.

The group then enjoyed a personal tour of historic Coe Hall—the highlight of which was an exhibit on the history of chocolate. To memorialize the day, members were presented with a seeded wildflower gift box containing sugar-free dark chocolate truffles. This event, which will take place yearly, is just one way the Foundation thanks those who have made a planned gift for the benefit of the health system’s future.
